Long Description

Trimble RTS 873 Robotic Total Station is an advanced robotic construction layout instrument designed for precise positioning, measurement, and BIM-based layout in building construction and engineering projects. Developed by Trimble Inc., the RTS 873 is part of the Trimble RTS Series Robotic Total Stations, specifically engineered to improve efficiency and accuracy for contractors working on complex job sites.

The RTS 873 features 100% robotic operation, allowing a single operator to perform layout tasks remotely using a tablet or controller running Trimble FieldLink software. The instrument automatically tracks targets and positions layout points, enabling construction teams to quickly transfer design coordinates from digital models to the physical jobsite.

A key capability of the RTS 873 is its bright auto-focusing green laser pointer, which clearly marks layout points directly on floors, walls, or ceilings for easy positioning of anchors, sleeves, and structural components. Combined with Trimble’s Visual Layout technology, the system can compensate for uneven surfaces to ensure correct horizontal positioning even on sloped or irregular floors.

The instrument also includes Trimble VISION technology, an integrated camera that streams live video to the field tablet. This allows operators to remotely view the jobsite from the total station’s perspective and visually confirm layout points before marking them, improving accuracy and reducing costly rework.

With a distance measurement accuracy of ±2 mm + 2 ppm and a single-prism measurement range up to approximately 2,500 meters, the RTS 873 delivers reliable performance for both interior and exterior construction layout tasks. Reflectorless measurement up to 120 meters allows direct measurement of surfaces without requiring a prism.

Designed for rugged construction environments, the RTS 873 includes IP55 dust and water protection, high-speed MagDrive motors for rapid robotic movement, and wireless radio communication up to 500–700 meters, making it ideal for large construction sites and infrastructure projects.

The system is widely used for building layout, MEP installation, concrete formwork positioning, steel structure alignment, and as-built verification, helping contractors increase productivity while maintaining high accuracy.
