The RIDGID Sr-20 St-305 Utility Line Locator paired with the RIDGID Sr-20 St-305 Line Transmitter forms a professional underground utility locating system designed for accurately detecting and tracing buried pipes, cables, and other underground infrastructure. This system is widely used by utility contractors, plumbers, telecommunications technicians, and construction professionals to locate utilities before excavation and maintenance work.

RIDGID Sr-20 St-305 uses an advanced omnidirectional antenna array that analyzes the entire electromagnetic field emitted by a utility line. This technology allows the device to determine the direction, position, signal strength, and depth of underground utilities with high accuracy. The intuitive display shows a target line and guidance arrows, helping operators quickly follow the path of the buried utility while identifying distortion or interference that may affect the signal.

Working together with the locator, the ST-305 transmitter applies a traceable signal to metallic pipes or cables so that they can be easily detected underground. The transmitter provides up to 5 watts of power and can send multiple frequencies, improving locating performance in different soil conditions and complex environments.

The SR-20 supports a wide range of locating frequencies, including active line tracing (128 Hz, 1 kHz, 8 kHz, and 33 kHz), as well as passive power and radio frequencies for detecting energized lines without a transmitter. It also supports sonde frequencies used for locating inspection cameras or pipe transmitters in drainage systems.

Designed for field durability, the SR-20 is lightweight (approximately 1.6 kg / 3.5 lb) and powered by four C-cell batteries, providing up to 10–16 hours of operation depending on usage.
